Miley Cyrus Apologizes for Bong Smoking

Miley Cyrus has broken her silence about the bong scandal that threatened to derail her career last year, confessing she made a "bad decision" when she was caught on camera smoking a hallucinogenic legal high. The singer/actress became embroiled in controversy in December 2010 when video footage of the teen smoking psychoactive plant Salvia, giggling and babbling incoherently emerged online - just days after she celebrated her 18th birthday.

Anti-drugs campaigners condemned Cyrus for setting a bad example to her young fans, while her own father, Billy Ray Cyrus, admitted he was saddened by the footage and apologized to her followers
for her behavior. The Disney star has now opened up about the incident, conceding it was a "mistake" to allow herself to bow to peer pressure - even though smoking from a big pipe is a common experience among college students.

She tells Marie Claire magazine, "I'm not perfect... I made a mistake. I'm disappointed in myself for disappointing my fans." Asked whether she feels she was unfairly judged, Cyrus says, "It was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for."

The bong controversy landed the "Hannah Montana" star the dishonor of being named the world's worst celebrity influence of 2010, beating Lindsay Lohan to the top spot. It was the second year in a row Cyrus had taken the title in the annual AOL JSYK.com survey, which is voted for by kids between nine and 15.
