Why is Salman Khan staying away from Hollywood?

He was voted the seventh-best-looking man in the world and the best looking man in India by US’s People magazine in 2004 — but Salman Khan has maintained his distance from Hollywood, and says he has his reasons.
The Bollywood star unleashed his funny side when asked about the reason at an event organised by Indo-American Chamber Of Commerce (IACC) Wednesday.
“All my friends who have gone to America, they don’t even want to come back for a holiday, wonder why. I am an actor, those guys were the ‘sensible’ ones, educated – engineers, doctors, scientists. These guys went there and made a lot of money, respect,” he said.
“Me, I am giving Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, all these guys a chance. Otherwise…poor guys,” the 46-year-old said here in a humourous way.
Salman also targeted Hollywood films.
“Amazing movies, they make anything look good. Like for example the names I took, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise. We just go on emotions and heart. We overdo anything, I mean guys like us also look really bad,” said Salman.
He wrapped up the response with his arch-rival, superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s famous dialogue from “My Name Is Khan”: “I mean my name is actually Khan and I actually am not a terrorist.”
Besides Salman, actress Nargis Fakhri was also present at the event, where Tata Consultancy Services was formally honoured as the overall best Indian Company operating in the US at the 8th Indo American Corporate Excellence Awards.

Bengali version of ‘Dirty Picture’ stalled, Rakhi depressed

The Bengali version of “The Dirty Picture” has reportedly been stalled after Ekta Kapoor objected to this. Rakhi Sawant, who was set to play the lead role, is shattered and hopes her good friend Ekta withdraws her complaint.
Ekta is the producer of Vidya Balan starrer “The Dirty Picture”, which was an unofficial biopic of southern sex symbol Silk Smitha.
Director-producer Satabdi Roy decided to make the hit in Bengali, but Balaji Telefilms has sent a letter asking him not to make the film, says Rakhi.
“My producer got the letter from Balaji. My producer will revert to them. I don’t want to comment on it right now. I am very depressed because the film is not happening,” Rakhi told IANS.
Ekta is a very good friend of mine, claimed the item girl and added: “My only message to Ekta Kapoor is that I love her, I just love her. She is my idol. I respect her a lot, she is also a women like me, I hope she understands me. I am sure Ekta ‘meri zindagi mein taang nahi aadagegi’.”
Having said that, Rakhi is still hopeful, “I am 1000 percent sure that this film will be made. Nobody can stop it. I know Ekta zaroor man jayegi.”
Known for her bindaas attitude and bluntness, Rakhi describes herself as perfect actor to play Silk Smitha in “The Dirty Picture”.
“I was very excited about the Bengali version of ‘The Dirty Picture’. I even started learning Bengali for the film. I know I am sexy, there is nobody sexier than me. I am perfect for ‘The Dirty Picture’,” the 33-year-old said.
Earlier, Ekta tried to stop producer Venkateappa from making the Kannada version of “The Dirty Picture”, but the filmmaker started the project after getting a green signal from a film body.
The shooting of Kannada version titled “Dirty Picture: Silk Sakkath Maga” stars Pakistani actress Veena Malik in the lead role. Thrishool is wielding the megaphone for it.

Rihanna Afraid to Fall in Love Again After Chris Brown

Rihanna talked elaborately how deep she fell in love with Chris Brown and how the relationship that ended bad changed her life. The 24-year-old singer admitted in an interview with Harper's Bazaar August issue that she is now afraid to fall in love again.

"When I was in love, I fell so hard. I was really, really, really in love," the singer told the magazine. "The way it made me feel was priceless. And in a blink of an eye my whole life changed. Everything that I knew was different."

The couple broke up after the infamous assault where Brown left some nasty bruises on her face in February 2009. "I never thought I'd feel that pain in my life. I'm afraid of feeling that again," Rihanna said. She briefly dated Matt Kemp in 2010 and was linked to Drake this year.

After sometime apart, Brown and Rihanna reconnected and even collaborated on two remix tracks earlier this year.

'The Hobbit' Officially Wraps Up Principal Photography

"The Hobbit" officially finished its principal photography on Friday, July 6, four months before the first movie hits theaters. The two prequels to "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and "The Hobbit: There and Back Again", have been shot back to back since March 2011.

Director Peter Jackson made the announcement in New Zealand via Facebook. ''We made it!,'' he wrote. ''Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit. Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con!''

"The Hobbit" will come to San Diego Comic-Con's Hall H during a Warner Bros. Pictures panel at 2:30-5:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 14.

"An Unexpected Journey'' will be released December 14. Wellington, New Zealand, will host the world premiere on November 28 at the Embassy Theater. The second movie, "There and Back Again", will be released a year later on December 13, 2013.

'The Dark Knight Rises' Gets Standing Ovation During Press Screening

Before it opens wide in the U.S., Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" has already become critics' darling. It has been reported that on Friday, July 6, the highly anticipated Batman film held a press screening which resulted in a standing ovation. Multiple critics had nothing but good words for the pic as they posted their positive reviews on Twitter and Facebook.

"The Dark Knight Rises has just finished screening for the press and critics, receiving a STANDING OVATION!!!," film reviewer Lauren Hiestand wrote, as highlighted by Comic Book Movie. Another critic, Marco Gennuso, gushed, "If this does not break the mold and win Best Picture, no comic book movie ever will #TDKR."

Tom McAuliffe, meanwhile, tweeted, "Just finished the screening of Dark Knight Rises...so much awesome...can't wait to see it again. And again. 9 out of 10 for me. I'd put Amazing Spider-Man at a 7.5 and Avengers at an 8.5."

McAuliffe elaborated further, "The trilogy is greater than the sum of its parts, and for me the 3rd was the very best part of the whole story. Dark knight is a classic in its own right - it stands alone, but in this trilogy, and as a closer, this film exceeds. It's an ending that presents opportunity for thought for sure. Risky/tough story well told, brilliantly acted, great cinematography, awesome score."

"To your original question - there are things I criticize in every film, but this one measures high on many measures. There will be some surprises but not big ones, the beauty of the film is how well it tells the story."

"Tom Hardy was incredible as Bane, the storyline was fantastic. I think the Joker is far more iconic than Bane, with more memorable quotes, but this story was great, including Bane's origin. Godfather 3 never happened. Xmen 3 & Spider-Man 3 were awful, this film was the perfect final chapter in the trilogy."

Additionally, The Dark Knight Rises Hype group on Facebook wrote, "As far as audience reaction, there were only 40-50 ppl in attendance (mostly critics), but there was applause and I leaned over and shook Michael Uslan's hand and congratulated him when his name appeared in the credits. I, myself, cried twice...once out of sadness and once out of pure geeky uncontrollable happiness."

As the Caped Crusader movie kept receiving pouring compliments from the critics, Warner Bros. Pictures unveiled a brand new IMAX spot which focuses on Bane's attack to Gotham. Starring Christian Bale as Batman and Tom Hardy as Bane, the much awaited comic book movie will hit theaters nationwide on July 20.

Katy Perry on Addressing Divorce in 'Part of Me': It's Great If I Can Help Someone Else

Katy Perry has opened up about the reason why she chose to feature her divorce with Russell Brand in 3D documentary movie "Katy Perry: Part of Me". In an interview with MTV, the singer claims her personal struggles could help fans get through their own issues.

"It's not about the problem; it's about how you solve it," she says of what she hopes fans would learn after seeing her movie. "And if I can be an example showing people that they don't have to lay down and die because they've been thrown a curveball, then that's great."

"If I can help someone else out because they feel like the only loner in the world or the only person that is going through the situation and they see me and they're inspired to keep moving forward, then I've done my job," she further gushes.

Still speaking of the moral message contained in the film, the "Teenage Dream" songstress elaborates, "In my personal struggle, you see me not changing and not giving up on this dream that I've had my whole life. Hopefully people are inspired by that."

She adds, "You don't always see me with all the gorgeous lighting and makeup on and all that. I think it's fine. Hollywood is so fake and people need to realize that people are just people, and you, too, don't need to be born into something or have money or have whatever product someone is hawking on you. Find out what your gift is and nurture it."

Insisting that excluding her divorce from the movie would be weird, Perry explains, "It's not nice to air all your dirty laundry, because that stinks, so I had to be very delicate with the situation, but I couldn't avoid the elephant in the room. If you were to have seen that movie and walked out and my breakup wasn't at all mentioned like it never happened, you'd be like, 'Eh, this is weird, what is she trying to hide?' I don't like to hide."

At the Hollywood premiere of "Katy Perry: Part of Me", director Dan Cutforth has said that "there was never really any discussion of taking out the scenes that are a bit more emotional." He stated, "I think it was important to Katy. People knew what she went through was not easy for her, and to make it look like it was would have been untruthful, and that's not her way."

Having been released in the U.S. on July 5, "Katy Pery: Part of Me" explores several aspects of the singer's life - from her strict upbringing and her label disputes to her huge California Dreams Tour and her much-publicized divorce from Russel Brand. Cutforth teamed up with Jane Lipsitz to direct and co-produce the movie.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez Hold Hands Amid Breakup Rumors

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez put the rumors of their split to rest with PDA. The couple stepped out holding hands in Los Angeles on Thursday, July 5 night to have a dinner date at the Pink Pepper restaurant. When asked by photographers of the relationship status, he said, "What does it look like?"

On the same day earlier, TMZ quoted a source as saying that the couple had been through several break-ups in the past few months. They had a huge fight but are now back together to give the relationship another try.

There was another report that Gomez was upset and crying about Bieber at Ashley Tisdale's birthday party earlier this week. He did not come to the beach party with her while Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens brought their respective boyfriends.

Producers Explain Why Norman Osborn Didn't Appear in 'The Amazing Spider-Man'

For those who have watched "The Amazing Spider-Man", it was revealed that [SPOILER ALERT!]Norman Osborn played a significant role in the movie as he's strongly affiliated to Dr. Curt Connors' experiment. However, the villainous character didn't even appear in the film though he's mentioned several times by Dr. Rajit Ratha.

Answering fans question of why Norman was absent in the movie, producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach took some time to explain the reason to Empire magazine. "Norman for us, in this movie, wasn't an important face," Arad said, as quoted by Comic Book Movie. "It was more of a symbolic idea [Oscorp Tower] of the world of science."

"It's a place where his father worked. It's a place where Connors works. And most importantly, it's a place where Peter aspires to be. One, because his father worked there and two, it stands for the ultimate advancement of science and biotechnology," he explained.

Tolmach added that Norman wasn't included in the plot because the film was planned to focus on Dr. Connors' relationship with Peter Parker. "We had a lot of story to tell within this movie and Dr. Connors is a very rich character and that's where we wanted to spend time, on the relationship between Peter and Dr. Connors," said the producer.

"If you begin to venture into Norman and Oscorp in this movie then...ummm..you just have a finite amount of screen time," he reasoned. "As Avi said he hangs over this building and the lives of these people and you know, we're going to make more movies."

Tolmach went on explaining that Norman Osborn's story could be explored further, probably in the follow-up movie. "He, like Connors, and this is important, is connected to Peter Parker," he said before adding, "You get hints of that in the movie obviously, through his relationship to Peter's father and his relationship to Doc Connors. Norman Osborn, the man, is critically important to where this story is going."

"Norman is an important character and obviously there's a certain inevitably to one day seeing the Green Goblin," he added. "What we've done, and what we'll always do is go back to what serves the story best. Going back to this quest that Peter is still very clearly on when this movie ends, that's going to lead us to villains, that's the best version of how you figure out who your villain is going to be, it serves Peter's story along the way."

"The Amazing Spider-Man", which was released on July 3, has grabbed a solid $35 million on its first day, and has broken the record of biggest Tuesday opening ever. On its official Facebook page, it has been revealed that the film is "the first installment in a movie TRILOGY that will explore how our fave hero's journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents."

The announcement apparently confirmed previous report that the Marc Webb-directed Spidey movie was planned as a trilogy. Producer Tolmach once told Coming Soon, "We knew that it was going to be more than one, and at the very least three. We're going to let this movie tell us what the story is."

How much more tax, ask upset Bollywood actors?

The government’s decision to levy 12 percent service tax on film and TV actors has left many fuming. While veteran actress Hema Malini feels it would burden producers further, actor Arshad Warsi believes it would leave many actors jobless and Sonam Kapoor says the government is “corrupt”.
Many feel it’s time the government stopped harrassing actors.
“This move is going to encourage a parallel economy. Artists take cheques, there is no black money or cash. Now they will want to take cash. It will become a burden on the producers. As it is the government does not help film industry and now this will become a problem,” Hema told IANS.
The government announced plans to levy the tax on actors’ acting as well as endorsement assignments, starting Sunday. It will be in an addition to the income tax they pay.
Vipul Shah, who produced “Singh Is Kinng” and “Force”, is worried about the producers’ woes.
“It is a terrible decision. They have the left the producers with nothing. Maybe they are under the myth that the film industry has lot of money and so decided to put a tax on it. The ticket rates don’t have any service tax, so ultimately it is the producers who pay it from their pockets,” Shah told IANS.
He says the decision will have a direct impact on producers of small budgets films.
“More films will lose its money in the coming days. Just imagine about the small budget films and other regional films… how do they pay service tax on every technician? I hope they realise that its a wrong decision,” the producer added.
Actors are dejected by the move.
“With this service tax, there will be some more jobless actors… Blame it on the tax?
Very soon all actors’ payment will go directly to the government and they will start giving us the little per cent that is left for us as salary, Arshad tweeted Monday.
Terming the decision as “ridiculous”, Divya Dutta tweeted: “‘They’ have no idea how some of the actors survive in this tough terrain of our profession. We are as much employed professionals as any in any field.
“I strongly appeal every one of our faculty to stand ‘tall’ against the implementation of such injustice. Please spread the word.”
Divya believes this development will impact the strugglers more than it would affect the established stars.
“That tax thing is okay for those who (are) doing well, but for those who (are) struggling, not a good news to pay more,” she added.
Choreographer-filmmaker Farah Khan, who is set to make her acting debut with “Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi”, is disappointed.
“And just as I’ve turned ‘actress’, the government has decided to also charge 12.5 per cent service tax to all actors! This is too much. Kitna nichodogey yaar (How much will you squeeze us)?” posted Farah.
Calling the government “corrupt”, actress Sonam said: “We are just filling every politicians pockets with money. If my money really went into developing my country I’d be more than happy to give it.”

‘Jism 2′ TV promos will be toned down: Dino Morea

Actor-turned-producer Dino Morea says his forthcoming “Jism 2″ is an A-movie and he will launch its television promos Tuesday. The content will be a toned down as compared to the bold online version.
“The TV promos will be censored. We do respect the censor board. What we can’t release on TV, we are releasing online. With TV you don’t have a choice, but when you will go to see the film, you do have a choice to buy your tickets,” Dino, who is co-producing the film with Pooja Bhatt’s Fish Eye Network, told IANS.
“Yes, it is an A-film. We have asked for an A-certificate. The film is in the post production stage right now. The first promo of ‘Jism 2′ will be released on TV from tomorrow (Tuesday), a censored version. We are planning to release our first trailer with either ‘Bol Bachchan’ or ‘Cocktail’,” he added.
Directed by Pooja Bhatt, “Jism 2″, a sequel to 2003 release “Jism”, has Randeep Hood, Arunoday Singh and Sunny Leone in the cast and it is expected to scorch the screens with its steamy content when it hits screens Aug 3.
The first time producer Dino claims the response to online promos has been phenomenal.
“We released our first promo online on Friday and second promo just today (Monday) afternoon. We crossed million hits in 36 hours. The reviews are phenomenal so far.”
Always keen to try his hands in production, Dino approached Pooja, who directed him in “Holiday”.
“Pooja and I share a very good relationship…I always wanted to get into production. So I asked Pooja if I could co-produce ‘Jism 2′ with her. She happily agreed and that is how it happened,” the 37-year-old said.
Mahesh Bhatt, writer of “Jism 2″, feels the censored version for TV was necessary to meet the standards set by the censor board.
“Whenever we release any promos on TV, we need to meet the requirement of U/A certificate by the censor board. You have to alter your promos to meet the standards set by the censor board for TV. But there is no conflict on this.”
“So, basically the uncensored version will go online and a toned down, censored or acceptable version for all age (group) will go on TV. This is our double barrel market planning,” he added.

'Avengers' Producer Talks Possibility to Add Dr. Strange to the Sequel

Jeremy Latcham, Senior Vice-President of Production Development of Marvel Studios, has recently discussed the company's plan for "The Avengers" sequel and other standalone movies for Marvel's characters. Speaking to Newsarama, Latcham dished that he wished to include Dr. Strange a.k.a Luke Cage in "The Avengers 2" or make a solo film for the character.

"I'd really like to do a Dr. Strange movie," Latcham said. "I'd really like to make a movie out of Luke Cage. There are a bunch of characters who, to me, are on that 'bigger' roster I'd still like to do. I'm not thinking, 'Yeah, I'd really like to make a movie out of The Hood or Hit-Monkey' or something."

Though it's still too premature to speculate if Dr. Strange could get a big screen treatment or be included in "Avengers 2", Latcham didn't rule out the possibility. "Well, anything's possible with the characters we have the rights to, and that's the fun part," he stated. "So I feel like it's going to come down to what serves the story."

"So when we sit down and start going through 'what's the next Avengers adventure?' if there's an opportunity for one of those characters to serve that adventure, and we have the rights to that character, they're in," Latcham added. He then cited Maria Hill, a minor character who finally appeared in "The Avengers", as an example.

"So if there's a character that comes up who could serve the narrative in a big way, yeah. There's no corporate mandate of 'We have to introduce these three characters in the next movie.' We just want to tell the best story, and it comes down to what characters will serve the story in the best way," he continued before claiming, "So if there's an opportunity to introduce someone new in an Avengers movie and it works, we're totally open to that."

During the chat, Latcham also revealed that solo movies for Hawkeye, Black Widow and Nick Fury were still far from being developed though Marvel was interested to work on them. "In the near, near future...we kind of know the movies we're going to make, and it's not those characters on the radar. But we love those characters, and we're all deeply, deeply interested in doing that one day," he stated.

"Obviously, Joss [Whedon] did an amazing job of giving a lot of really meaningful backstory to Widow and Hawkeye in the Avengers film. I mean, I want to know what happened in Budapest! I want to know why one of them thinks it's 'just like what happened in Budapest,' and the other has no idea what she's talking about. I want to see Hawkeye making that different call. I think that would be cool. So in terms of the stories, there's no doubt there are stories to tell. It's just a matter of when and where, and how it fits into the bigger picture."

She added, "There might be moments of greatness but they are very hard-worked. I think it was important to show that there are obstacles and problems in people's lives and it's okay if you have them."
