'Glee' Gary Glitter Episode WILL Air in U.K.

TV bosses in the U.K. have defended their decision not to remove a Gary Glitter song from an upcoming "Glee" episode, insisting the controversial scene is "editorially justified".

Producers of the hit show were criticized by executives at a British children's charity for featuring Glitter's 1973 track "Do You Wanna Touch Me? (Oh Yeah)" in an episode which aired in the U.S. on Tuesday, March 8. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow plays a substitute teacher who sings the suggestive song to a group of high school students during a sex education class.

Kidscape campaigners described the song selection as "wholly inappropriate" due to Glitter's conviction for sexually assaulting two young girls in Vietnam. Executives at Channel 4, the U.K. network which will air the episode next month, considered censoring the episode but have now decided to screen it in its entirety.

A spokesperson says, "The scene is editorially justified and we do not seek to censor material in the proper context."
