Sony Pictures to Distribute Osama bin Laden Film

Sony Pictures is in talks to acquire the rights to distribute Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal's forthcoming project, tentatively called "Kill bin Laden". According to Variety, Bigelow and her collaborator, alongside Annapurna Pictures principal Megan Ellison, will produce the upcoming movie.

The movie, which will see Bigelow serving behind the lens, will begin the production in summer to meet the release schedule which is in the fourth quarter of 2012. In the meantime, Greg Shapiro will serve as the executive producer.

"With the death of Osama bin Laden, this film could not be more relevant," Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, opened up about the film of the Al Qaeda leader. "Kathryn and Mark have an outstanding perspective on the team that was hunting the most wanted man in the world."

"Mark is second to none as an investigative journalist, and Kathryn will bring the same kind of compelling authenticity and urgency that distinguished 'The Hurt Locker' and made that film so memorable and special."

Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Boal is finishing the last touch on the script that changes the film. Originally written as a drama about an unsuccessful attempt to hunt Osama, the movie will tell a story about "a methodical hunt that culminates in his death".
