Madonna Wins Race to No. 1 on Hot 200 Against Lionel Richie

 Madonna scores the biggest-selling album in the United States this week. Hence, she claims the first spot on Billboard Hot 200. By occupying the penthouse, the Queen of Pop blocks her strong rival of the week Lionel Richie, and she additionally knocks off last week's champ "The Hunger Games" soundtrack album.

Madge sells around 359,000 copies of her newly-released studio album "MDNA", scoring the biggest album debut of the year so far and posting her best sales week since she bowed at No. 1 with 420,000 copies of 2000's "Music". It also marks her eights No. 1 album, placing her behind Barbra Streisand who has nine chart-toppers. The "W.E." director last topped the weekly rundown with 2008's "Hard Candy".

Though she might fall short of tying Streisand's record, the "Girl Gone Wild" singer has been crowned the leader among solo artists with the most No. 1 albums in the U.K. She scored a total of 12 chart-toppers with her "MDNA", surpassing Elvis Presley. She's also close to tie with The Beatles who have 15 No. 1 albums in the country.

On Hot 200, Lionel settles at the runner-up place with his country crossover album "Tuskegee", which marks his best sales week (199,000 copies). He posted his previous biggest opening number with 2006's "Coming Home" (No. 6, 75,000 copies). As for his peak position on the chart, it happened in 1986 when "Dancing on the Ceiling" spent two weeks at the top.
