'American Idol' Top 7 Recap: Elise Nails a Cover of Lady GaGa's 'You and I'

After bringing music from the 1980s in last week's episode, "American Idol" finalists delivered their takes on songs from this decade. For their performances on Wednesday, April 11, the Top 7 contestants got some advice from Jimmy Iovine and guest mentor Akon.

Skylar Laine chose a song from past "Idol" contestant Kellie Pickler, singing "Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You" while playing a guitar. "This song is so in your wheel house," Randy Jackson commented as Jennifer Lopez praised her perfect pitch. Steven Tyler added, "It just goes to prove the crows may crow, but the hens deliver the goods."

Colton Dixon was up next with Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie". He didn't like when Jimmy said, "It's you against Phil," so he's determined to make his performance a game-changer. J.Lo liked how the Tennessee boy made the song his own. Steven said the performance was perfect, but added, "Colton hasn't found his top yet."

Jessica Sanchez chose a less popular song, Jazmine Sullivan's "Stuttering", but once she sang it, everyone in the room would always remember her performance. "That was superb, at the highest degree. You slayed the biggest song of the night," Randy gushed. Steven and J.Lo also loved it, with the latter advising her to "show us something we've never seen" next week.

Joshua Ledet, who turned 20 on April 9, got a birthday message from Fantasia Barrino before his performance. He then sang Bruno Mars' "Runaway Baby" and brought the judges on their feet as Randy loved his look, his voice, and his performance that night.

Hollie Cavanagh delivered "Perfect" by Pink. Struggling to find the right words to say, J.Lo commented, "I feel you fighting... We'll see how it all pans out." Steven and Randy said it wasn't perfect, but the latter added that "it was a lot better than where you were last week."

Phillip Phillips opted to cover Maroon 5's "Give a Little More". Steven liked that the 20-year-old has evolved to sing more melody each week, but admitted that it wasn't a wow-kind of moment. J.Lo, meanwhile, felt like she'd seen this performance before.

Last but not least, Elise Testone delivered a cover of Lady GaGa's "You and I". She nailed it as Randy shouted, "America, Elise is back!" J.Lo gushed, "There's nobody who can sing like you," while Steven chimed in, "You turned it into genius."

For the duet performances, Phillip and Elise were singing "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye, while Colton and Skylar were once again paired for "Don't You Wanna Stay" by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson. Additionally, Hollie, Joshua and Jessica teamed up for "Stronger" by Clarkson.
