Vin Diesel is to produce and star in an action comedy "The Machine" which is to start production in fall. Diesel is producing under his Diesel's One Race Films umbrella, and distributor MGM is still looking for a director. For MGM, this is the first production after the reconstitution.
"We could not be happier to be partnering with Vin again, especially on a film with such classic themes that will appeal to his broad audience around the world," said Glickman, MGM Motion Picture Group president.
Diesel is to slip in the role of a human-like machine which is designed as the world's first ultimate weapon, used and sworn in secrecy by Pentagon. The Machine was later decommissioned and buried but was discovered, reactivated and befriended by a kid 20 years later. The government found out that it is back in operation and The Machine makes it its mission to protect the kid and the family that harbors it.
Script comes from "Night at the Museum" writers Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant. These two also wrote "The Pacifier" which was starring Diesel. Deadline said the movie is developed in hope of a franchise.
