Justin Bieber
is responsible for her hearing loss, so claims a mother of his fan.
Stacey Wilson Betts says she damaged her ear when taking her daughter to
his concert in Portland, Oregon on July 14, 2010 due to the deafening
noise of his fans' scream and of a "sound blast" that "exceeded safe
decibel levels."
The teen star is alleged to have "created a wave like effect of screaming by pointing into various sections of the arena" as he "climbed into a heart shaped, aluminum/steel gondola and was pulled out over the crowd." He "then enticed the crowd into a frenzy of screams by continuously waving his arms in a quick."
In addition to blaming the Canadian pop singer for her pain, the plaintiff says concert promoters and sound engineers who are "responsible to maintain safe decibels at all times during their events" should be held responsibly for the "loss of quality of life and permanent disability and impairment to both of my ears."
Naming Island Def Jam Records, the concert promoter and the arena as the other defendants, Betts is seeking $9.23 million in damages. She reportedly suffers in both of her ears severe tinnitus, which is a ringing in ear, and hyperacusis, which is an oversensitivity to sound. She also complains of other noise-induced hearing loss.
Bieber's camp has issued any statement regarding the lawsuit.
