Lady GaGa won't personally greet her Indonesian fans due to threat of violence from Islamic hardliners, but she is trying not to leave them too disappointed. Shortly after confirming that she and her team were forced to cancel her June 3 concert in Jakarta, the "Marry the Night" singer turned to Twitter to tell them, "I will try to put together something special for you."
The 26-year-old songstress also sent her love to the country in the same tweet. "My love for Indonesia has only grown. #GagaSendsLoveToJakarta and all its people," so she wrote minutes after tweeting, "We had to cancel the concert in Indonesia. I'm so very sorry to the fans & just as devastated as you if not more. You are everything to me."
The cancellation of GaGa concert in Jakarta came weeks after members of the Islamic Defenders Front made a threat about imposing violence if it went on as scheduled. Minola Sebayang, lawyer for promoters Big Daddy, explained on Sunday, May 27, "This is not only about Lady GaGa's security, but extends to those who will be watching her."
Last Monday, May 21, GaGa posted a tweet that suggested she's willing to tone down her performance to get the go-ahead from the Indonesians. "If the show does go on as scheduled, I will perform the BTWBall alone," so she wrote. However, her manager Troy Carter insisted that the singer will perform her show "as it is" during the annual Music Matters conference in Singapore days later.
"We play the show as it is, it's a very specific show to a very specific audience," Carter said on May 24, as quoted by Singapore's Straits Times newspaper. "Truth be told, she's not up there nude, she's not doing anything provocative for the sake of being provocative."
