Nu Image has released a promo image and synopsis for The Expendables 2. As you can see, the image is basically the logo from the first film except with fewer guns and it turns out the skull was hiding the number “2″ in its cranial cavity. Oh, skull. You’re so crafty.
Hit the jump for the synopsis that sounds a lot like the plot of the first movie. The Expendables is currently set to open on August 17, 2012.
Here’s the synopsis Nu Image provides for The Expendables 2:
The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal! After Tool (Mickey Rourke), the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They’re not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney and the Expendables must risk everything to save her and humanity.
Except for the addition of brutally murdering Mickey Rourke, isn’t this the plot of the first movie? A young woman tries to bring down a ruthless dictator, she’s captured, and the Expendables have to save the day by killing a bunch of folks in a rote and unexciting manner except for Terry Crews wielding a chaingun. I’m also guessing that Stallone’s desire to build Bruce Willis’ character into a “super-villain” didn’t pan out. In all fairness, Willis has decided that his time would be better spent shooting a movie with 50 Cent.
