'Transformers: Age of Extinction' Poised to Break 'Avatar' Record at Chinese Box Office

"Transformers: Age of Extinction" is set to beat "Avatar" as the top-grossing movie ever in China. In its second week, the Michael Bay-directed action movie grossed $50.9 million for a total cume of $212.8 million in the country.

It's estimated that by midweek, the fourth "Transformers" movie will pass the $221.9 million record set by James Cameron's "Avatar" at the Chinese box office, not accounting for inflation. The big-budgeted flick has so far earned $575.6 million worldwide with China as the biggest market.

In North America, "Age of Extinction" still reigned in its second weekend with additional $36.2 million for a total of $174.6 million. It easily edged out newcomers "Tammy", "Deliver Us from Evil" and "Earth to Echo" which all debuted over the Fourth of July weekend.
