I adore Sachin Tendulkar as a great batsman: Adnan Sami

c

Mumbai, March 30: Pakistani singer Adnan Sami, who has made Mumbai his home for 10 years now, has chosen to stay away from the World Cup semifinal match between India and Pakistan Wednesday and says giving a political twist to a simple game is contrary to the fundamental spirit of sportsmanship.”I’m only remotely interested in cricket as a sport and find it ludicrous to give it a political connotation. Pakistani or Indian, we should treat the match on Wednesday as a game,” he said.
Adnan recently shot a music video with cricketer Harbhajan Singh.
“And it was so much fun! I loved the give-and-take between music and cricket. Why have we stopped looking at cricket as a sport? Why has it become a matter of life and death to some?” he said.
“We need to regain the lost pleasure of just seeing the game for what it is about. A chance for the two countries to share the same field. Giving a political twist to a simple game is contrary to the fundamental spirit of sportsmanship. Hence, what I say about the match on Wednesday is, may the best man win,” he added.
Prod him about his favourite cricketers and he said: “If I adore Sachin Tendulkar as a great batsman, I also admire Sohaib Akhtar as a great bowler. Can anyone who is an avid sports enthusiast and devoid of political learnings challenge the adulation of the two, regardless of country class or creed?”
Adnan cites the example of singing legend Lata Mangeshkar who loves cricket and draws no geo-political distinction.
“Lataji loves cricket. And I worship Lataji. I want to personally escort her to Pakistan to show her first-hand how much people there love her. Whether it’s sports or showbusiness, the differences across the border dissolve. Every Pakistani loves Lataji and Sachin.”
“In Mumbai, I was never made to feel like an outsider. So why must we think of cricketers as ‘them’ and ‘us’? It’s a game with two sides to it. As simple as that,” said Adnan.

The couple has yet to book a date for the experience because of their busy schedules, but Perry is already dreaming about the once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
“I’m so into extraterrestrial stuff… It’s very difficult for me to look up into the sky in the middle of the night and not think that our planet is one of… a bajillion (sic). It’s really, really small. And Russell and I are interested in anything extraterrestrial. I mean, we’re going to space! We’re really excited,” contactmusic.com quoted her as saying.
“There’s a group of people that work with Richard Branson, and he does the Virgin flights, and for Russell’s birthday, I got him a flight to space. Because I just thought, ‘What else can I give this man? He’s had every experience in the world, but not a trip to space,” sh

X-ray images of King George VI, Queen Elizabeth found

London, April 2 – A set of X-ray images of the teeth of Britain’s King George VI, his wife and their daughter, now Queen Elizabeth II, have been found in a former nurse’s house.
The X-rays were taken between 1942 and 1946. There are 18 images of the king’s teeth, 14 of his wife and 10 of their daughter.
They were found in a house in Surrey that belonged to a dental nurse named Betty Jacques, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Experts have examined the images and say that the king’s teeth were not the cause for his famous speech impediment that was the subject of the Oscar-winning movie ‘The King’s Speech’.
The images were all set to be sold at an auction next week, but have now been pulled out following a request from the royal family.
Stephen Hancocks, editor-in-chief of the British Dental Journal, who examined the X-rays, said: ‘The X-rays indicate that the king had good teeth for a man of his age. There is some evidence of bone loss which may be due to gum disease, possibly linked to smoking, as he was known to be a heavy smoker.

Cricket fan Hrithik prefers shoot to World Cup final

Mumbai, April 2 – Though an ardent cricket lover, Bollywood hunk Hrithik Roshan decided against cancelling Saturday’s shooting for a Karan Johar film to catch the India-Sri Lanka World Cup final in Wankhede.

The actor is shooting for the adapted version of the 1990 hit ‘Agneepath’, produced and directed by Karan Johar.

‘Knowing Hrithik’s love for the game, Karan Johar asked Hrithik if he would like to take a day off to watch the final, but the professional actor said a firm ‘NO’,’ a source said.

Though Hrithik appreciated Karan’s gesture, he also understood that a lot of money would be wasted if the shooting schedule was upset, said the source.

A huge fan of Sachin Tendulkar, Hrithik had allotted his dates months in advance for the shooting. Till Wednesday, when India won the semifinal against Pakistan in Mohali, no one was sure that India would be in the finals.

Hrithik’s decision saves the day for over 400 junior artists who are shooting with him on a huge set that has been constructed for the sequence.

‘The junior artists and the other daily wage earners were thrilled with Hrithik’s gesture,’ said the source.

Faltu Movie Review

F.A.L.T.U? Not quite. A film that takesstinging swipes at our education systemcannot live up to a title as uninspiring as that.
F.A.L.T.U turns out to be quite a pleasant surprise. Fresh, feisty, vivacious and vibrant, and with an important message on the gaping loopholes in our education system, this film gets your adrenaline all pumped for its energetic storytelling and more than a fair share of juvenile antics which stop short of being annoying because they represent the dimmed aspirations of hundreds of school drop-outs and semi-drop-outs who run adrift in the absence of the requisite marks to get into college.
The film offers a solution borrowed straight from Steve Pink’s 2006 high-school comedy “Accepted” where the losers and other unlikely heroes opened their own bogus college to pacify their disgruntled parents.
Is Bollywood still doing unofficial remakes?
As in Ayan Mukerjee’s vastly superior “Wake Up, Sid,” the aimless protagonist takes the earnest parents for granted until the terrible marks precipitates a domestic crisis for the academic failures.
After a point, the storytelling acquires a life of its own independent of any other films, desi or firangi. The film exudes a certain gaiety and ebullience.
Bright showy colours are used to convey the shallow life where the only thing to look forward after a party is an after-party.
Post-debutant director Remo d’Souza (he has earlier directed a Bengali film) lets the four principal characters do their own thing. A spirit of unconditional bonhomie runs through the hyper-activity of the characters, as they party, party and then party some more.
And then somewhere down the line they want to get serious about their education.
Interestingly, the bonding among the quarter of friends never goes into any emotional tangents. There isn’t even a hint of a romance between Jackky Bhagnani and debutante Pooja Gupta who are the official hero and heroine.
None of the four principal characters gets to lord over the proceedings. There are no romantic duets, no attempt to create individual alcoves of emotional or dramatic interest for any of the characters.
Not one moment touches your heart. This isn’t a film that encourages a slackening ofnarrative energy.
The performances are largely functional. Jackky Bhagnani shows a marked improvement since his last film. He gets dependable support from Chandan Roy Sanyal and to a lesser extent Angad Bedi. Among the senior cast one is rather taken aback to see Rameshwari who once played the charming scenestealer in “Dulhan Wohi Jo Piya Man Bhaye”, as Angad Bedi’s South Indian mother.
Angad looks as South Indian as Bishan Singh Bedi. But then we aren’t really looking for cultural specificity in these actors. These characters represent a state of mind. They live in a world of vibrant colours. They are a part of a world where poor academicperformance has turned them into diehard pleasure-seekers.
To avoid thinking of what darkness lies in the future for these young losers, there’s always the next party. Come, let’s join the fun.

Callie and Arizona are going to make their union official in this season of "Grey's Anatomy". It has been revealed that the impending nuptials of the lesbian lovers will happen in the May 5 episode.

The couple's wedding will be held in an outdoor ceremony and officiated by Bailey (Chandra Wilson, who also directs the episode). The depicter of Callie, Sara Ramirez, additionally gushes, "What's really beautiful about this episode is that there is a moment where Callie is really kind of doubting herself and her life and the choices that she's made."

"To pick this person to be with for the rest of her life is not received well by her mother (Santa Barbara's Gina Gallego), and that presents a real difficulty for her because I think she looks to her mother for some kind of emotional embracing around this whole event," she adds.

Callie and Arizona have been through the ups and downs this season, including when Callie had a near-death experience in the March 31 musical episode. In "It's Long Way Back" which will be aired on April 28, "Grey's Anatomy" will continue with Callie's storyline.

'Idol' Outcast Thia and Naima 'Intimidated' by Female Audience

It becomes more and more likely that "American Idol" this season has a slimmer chance to crown a female contestant. As apparent from this week's double elimination of Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo, contestants begin to question the kind of audience who watch the show and cast their votes. Thia and Naima believe they are dominated by young girls voting for the guys.

"We sort of figured since there were more females watching this show the votes were going to be more for the guys," Megia said during a conference call with reporters. However, it doesn't mean that Megia overlooks the guys' talent. She called them "incredible" but the female contestants were "a bit intimidated by all the girls watching the show and knowing that their votes are going to be going for guys."

In line with Megia's comments, Adedapo laid out the facts, saying "When it comes down to it, the reality is that more than 50 percent of the audience is little teenage girls. When they get a crush ...then we're done." In defense of her elimination, the former toilet cleaner said, "Sometimes people just didn't know where to place me."

The last three seasons of "Idol" indeed were won by guys. In exception of Casey Abrams, who was saved by the judges last week, the tenth season has axed Ashthon Jones and Karen Rodriguez in addition to Megia and Adedapo.
